The Serving team at Fakenham Parish Church
Servers are lay people who make the preparations for Holy Communion, assist the priest during the service, and clear away afterwards. Serving at the altar is a privilege and, like many other roles in running of a church, the ministry of servers is a quiet one and much of the work goes unnoticed.
Our church is not really a ‘high’ church – we do not use incense for example – but we do have a crucifer (who carries the Cross), acolytes (who carry the candles) and we do process with the Book, and occasionally have a Gospel Procession.
We have regular servers at Fakenham with a few others who join the team when they can. We have servers on duty for the main 10.30 Eucharist service on Sunday, and for special services such as Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday.
We are members of the Company of Servers, a nationwide all-inclusive society under the patronage of the Society of Catholic Priests – you will see the medals on blue ribbons that most of us wear. The Company supports and trains us, and provides fellowship with other servers in the Norwich Diocese and across the country.
We are sometimes looking for new people to join our team – especially young people – so please ask if you are interested.
