Christmas Goodwill and Thoughts |
(A
young man from Fakenham who has worked in the Third World
sent in this article - it was too late for the Christmas
edition but we felt it was well worth including -
name and addressed supplied)
Christmas is fast approaching and families begin their
commitment of spending time with one another. For some it’s
a chance to spend time with relatives while we exchange
gifts and enjoy the banter, laughs and the achievements
during the year that has just past like a flicker from a
star.
Sometimes we are over shadowed by the glistening thought of
new products, presents, desirable toys that we have wanted
for a short period of time. While we exchange gifts and
unravel what's inside these well wrapped gifts, all of the
once important thoughts that rush through our minds good and
bad are suppressed by the ideal thought of our presents that
we have received from our loved ones.
We all challenge ourselves in life to reach the same goal of
true happiness. Some reach happiness through helping others
and some through their jobs, the list is endless. Happiness
is not something that we can achieve with no input created
by ones self. We need to work on our goal in order to create
what we class as being happy. Sometimes the root we take may
result in short term bad feelings and thoughts; we still
consciously pick ourselves back up to achieve this long term
goal. Is there a difference between pleasure and happiness,
in my opinion yes. As it’s always lovely to exchange
presents during Christmas time it’s also true to say that
the gifts we receive are not inherent of existence nor is it
a phenomena and to create long term consistent happiness
through these desirable gifts, it would be just about
impossible to achieve. What makes these gifts so special is
the giver; he/she has spent time in deciding what is right
for you. While we sometimes forget to think about things
around us and sometimes we are blinded by ignorance of ones
self, people around us or even news on the television. You
can be sure this Christmas there will be others in this
world that do not achieve the pleasurable feelings of
unwrapping their presents or spending time with their family
that sometimes we may discourage. Passing our gifts onto
loved one's laps and seeing their faces as they quickly
unwrap the gift/s that their giver has patiently spent time
searching and finding out what he/ she wants, whether its
finding out from a friend or relative or by deciding
yourself with great thought.
Whether you live in western or eastern civilization, before
we unwrap our wonderful surprises maybe it would be
interesting having a quite thought about the less fortunate
people. Christmas can be a lonely time for some people,
humans just like you and I!
