Today as you enter Fakenham you see the magnificent 14th Century Church (which replaced an earlier Saxon Church) and many visitors to the town will just see another glorious Norfolk Church of historic interested.
However at the heart of the Church (dedicated to St Peter and St Paul) is the worship of almighty God, which has taken place over many centuries. The lit candles on the votive stand in the side Chapel are a sign that this place is a special place of prayer. The Church is open from 10am – 4pm each day and over 50,000 people visit the Church each year. If you wish the Ministry Team to pray for you please leave your prayer on sheet on the wooden lectern at the back of the church.
As well as worship, the Church is used for many other activities, but always there is a special place for prayer and quiet during these events.
The present vision of the Rector and Church Council is that Church should be used by the whole community throughout the week. So the building can change from being a busy Saturday Craft Market or Thursday Market Stall with refreshments, to the bi-annual Art Exhibition and Flower Festival, or the venue for one of the many concerts which take place during the year. Highlight of the year is Christmas Tree Festival sees over 25,000 visiting from all over the country. Through events and donations at services we try to donate at least 10% of all our income to charity.
We have a weekly Thursday Market Day Communion at 9.30am, and on Sunday 8am Holy Communion and 10.30am Parish Communion Every third Sunday in the month there is Choral Evensong led by the choir. On the first Sunday on the month we have Bridges Family Service at 9.30am and on the second Sunday we have a family occasion called Messy Church from 3.30pm – 5,30pm. In additional we have a weekly group meeting in the Trinity called ‘Stepping Stones’ for parents and children and every Monday there is a service at 9.45am followed by activities. All children’s activities are free because we believe in supporting the family.
The Clergy and Ministry Team members are always available and if you want to learn more about the Church then contact the Parish Office which is open from 10am – 12 noon each day of the week from Tuesday – Saturday, or contact us.
We try to meet you where you are on your Christian journey. We are a very accepting, and loving Church. We are neither ‘High Church’ nor ‘Low’ – in many ways we are very ordinary. People matter far more than ritual, although we aim to have worship of a high quality. If you visit or worship with us we will value you and love you. We hope what impresses you is not just the building, but the sincere welcome you will receive.
Adrian Bell
